Our Institute is involved in Research, Teaching and Patient Care. Research interests focus on monogenic as well as genetically complex diseases of the retina. Specifically, we aim at identifying and characterizing genetic variants underlying the various disease processes. Curricular teaching covers fundamental and advanced aspects of Human Genetics in Medicine and Biology. We are also active in training clinical geneticists, basic and diagnostic human genetic scientists. Finally, in cooperation with Dr. Schönbuchner, a medical specialist in Human Genetics, our Institute offers accredited molecular diagnostics and genetic counselling for a broad range of genetics-related issues.
